Focusing on friendships

“Jesus teaches us another way: Go out. Go out and share your testimony, go out and interact with your brothers and sisters, go out and share, go out and ask. Become the Word in body as well as spirit!”  -- Pope Francis

This month the focus is on friendships. While academics and learning are of utmost importance, the school years are also the times when we form close (or not so close) friendships with our peers. Equipping kids with the ability to make good choices related to friend groups is important, especially as our kids get into later elementary and middle school.

A great conversation starter this month at mealtime or in the car might be: Who is your closest friend and why? Discussing friendship issues or peer pressure before school starts is a way to help you child feel confident and ready to learn on the first day. It’s also the perfect time to remind your child who and whose they are. They are God’s creation and they have a purpose – to share the Good News of Jesus Christ in their words and deeds!

Blessings on your fall,

God has given everyone his or her own special gifts.  Our God-given gifts are those things that make us unique.  Once we know what our gifts are, we can develop them and share them with others. Download "Everyone Is Gifted" (PDF).
