'Lord, Send Us Your Spirit!' In this month of May, we celebrate both Mary and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Let us take a moment to reflect on the special relationship between the two.
We profess in the Creed that Jesus was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. Her free response to God -- "let it be done to me according to your word" -- is a model of obedience for all of us. Through her cooperation, Jesus the source of our salvation, was born.
Teach children to pray the simple words: veni, Sancte Spiritus -- Come, Holy Spirit -- and praise God for the renewal he brings to earth through the merits of his son Jesus Christ poured out by the Holy Spirit.
May we value and respect our bodies as dwelling places of the Holy Spirit.
